Imminent Annihilation are a new Groove-Death Metal outfit
from the United Kingdom and they dropped their debut EP last year – “The Annex
Between Creation and Annihilation”.
The EP consists of 3 tracks and an intro titled “Mother
Earth”. It begins with the narration of “The British Declaration of War” by
Prime Minister Chamberlain. The narrative adds its charm, as it fades off with
the words, “this country is at war” and a haunting guitar melody comes to the
front, building up to the music ahead.
The remaining 3 tracks are fast paced modern death metal
tracks with a nice groove tune running through them. It’s this ideal mix of
sounds that works for Imminent Annihilation, as it helps them stand out from
the crowd. The groovy guitar riffs, move in a perfect sync with the death metal
drum work and vocals. At instances the music edges towards the deathcore genre,
without falling into the pits of unnecessary blast beats or breakdowns.
The production is really the only big minus in this record.
The sound is highly compressed, with the drums sounding extremely stale. The
band will have a better presentation, with a bit more raw live sound in their
future albums.
Nevertheless, this is a solid debut release by this young
outfit, and a must listen if you are fan of groovy death metal music.
